The Younger, The Safer
Growing up in and around the water my whole life, I understood the importance of water safety from an early age. Swimming and diving competitively lead me to lifeguarding and teaching Red Cross swim lessons. After seeing my young cousinβs infant swim lessons, I realized there was a way to teach babies and young toddlers to swim and survive a fall in the water. That led me to Oklahoma Swim Academy, where my passion grew even stronger for infant swim. I loved that survival swimming could be so fun but so productive and with purpose. Itβs such a joy to watch children grow from being timid and shy to outgoing and proficient in the water. I love watching their faces when they master a skill and gain confidence in themselves. I love sharing my love for the water alongside teaching life-saving skills.
When we relocated to Arkansas, I knew I wanted to continue to teach Swim Float Survive so I went back to Oklahoma and got certified in the Swim Float Survive method through the Survival Swim Development Network. I am so excited to share such a gentle approach to survival swimming. Water is everywhere and it only takes seconds for things to go wrong. I want to buy some time and keep as many kids safe as possible.
We firmly believe that swim lessons should be accessible to all children, irrespective of their abilities. Our founder, Heidi Wallace Leftwich, is a certified Swim-Float-Survive specialist with a deep commitment to meeting each child where they are in their swimming journey. With her expertise, she can effectively teach children with Autism, Down Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, and other developmental delays, as well as those who are extremely anxious or have experienced aquatic trauma.
While it may take some children longer to acquire swimming skills, Heidi remains dedicated to helping them succeed. The therapeutic benefits of swimming for these children are truly remarkable.
On a personal note, Heidi, who has a non-speaking autistic son herself, understands the unique challenges faced by families with children on the autism spectrum. In her lessons, she employs various techniques, such as purposeful motor, visual schedules, and token economy, to effectively communicate and connect with her swimmers. Autistic children, particularly non-speaking autistic individuals, often experience full-body apraxia, which creates a disconnect between the brain and body. This condition can only be addressed by building a motor plan.
We encourage you to contact us before enrolling in Adaptive Aquatics. We offer discounts and scholarships to make our program more accessible. Heidi will collaborate with you to create a successful and enriching swimming experience for your child.
Additionally, Heidi has obtained extra certification through Swimming with Autism and is a Spell 2 Communicate (S2C) Practioner in training, further enhancing her expertise in working with autistic children.

Drowning is the leading cause of unintentional death in children under the age of 5.
Autistic Children are 160 times more likely to Drown then their Neurotypical Peers.
Formal swim lessons reduce the probability of drowning by 88%.

Ollie, 3, was a bright, happy and busy child with a deep love of Sesame Street, The Wiggles, bananas, pizza, cookies, cuties, french fries, banana bread and apple juice. He loved to sing his ABCs, count to 19, point out letters and colors, sing, dance, flap and show off his happy feet. He was an entertainer on any elevated surface but did not perform for the camera. He enjoyed eating on top of the table, playing in muddy puddles, being outside, listening to music, playing games on his tablet, taking hats off of Momma's and Daddy's heads, playing "Where's Ollie?" and "Patty Cake," cuddling with his soft blue blanket and resting in the arms of Momma and Daddy. He began and ended each day with a banana and apple juice and slept comfortably
between his Mom and Dad every night. His favorite phrases were "Are you ready?," "Well, cookie time!" "Well, pizza!, "and "Feed with purpose." His first word was "happyβ
Ollie drowned in a creek across the street from his house after bolting from his house and finding water. 50% of autistic children wonder, and nearly all of them will go straight to water. Little dipper survival swim, Created a scholarship in Ollieβs name to provide scholarships to autistic children specifically for this reason.

We offer swimming lessons for children as young as 6 months old to adult swimmers.
Our private lessons are 15 minutes long for un-skilled swimmers. we offer 30 minutes lessons for skilled children, older children, people in stroke development, group classes and adult swimmers.
π¦ Shorter, more frequent lessons is the key to succsess. Children reach their emotional and physical threshold sooner and when that has been reached, children stop learning. Additionally, the longer they are in the water, the more they will remember and the less researching will need to happen in the next lesson resulting in faster results.
Yes, we offer discounts for siblings and for purchasing lessons in bulk. Additionally, we have scholarship opportunities.
